They say a lot of bad things about Cleveland. But they have to at least hold their tongues when Orchid Mania is at the Botanical Gardens. Bella! The Gardens put on a fine show this year.I especially got a kick out of the orchid smelling of chocolate. I wanted to pick a song that captured the beauty that I saw this weekend.
I had a blast this weekend with Katy, so I thought it fitting that today's Fresh Music cover some of it. I went to the Cleveland International Film Festive for the first time. We caught the 5:00pm showing of In the Heat of the Night. Appearing in the middle of the film is the song Fowl Owl on the Prowl. It's a gem of a song written by Quincy Jones and with lyrics by Alan & Marilyn Bergman. The song’s performed by Boomer & Travis.
Boomer and Travis - Foul Owl From the Film - In the Heat of the Night
The Hard Rock was the place to be on Saturday Night. We got some great dinner at Houlihan's and then found we had some time to kill. So we got dessert at the Hard Rock Cafe and stumbled apon their March on Stage concert series. Playing was a local band Out From Under. They had an energy about them that made us stay for the whole set.
This is too funny! I know it has nothing to do with St. Patrick's Day, but I couldn't wait to share it with you. I'll be back later for a post parade post and a story or two about some drunken shenanigans.
Movie Title directed by Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher
***UPDATE*** The parade was so much fun. People were all kinds of drunk. Not to mention, some guys started a Fight Club right behind me!
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I thought I would share some music with a celtic flair. This song is by Great Big Sea (my favorite band in the whole wide world) and the Chieftains (they kick some ass too). I try to see them whenever they tour. I will be back Wednesday with stories to tell from my first ever St. Patrick's Day parade (I am so excited). I will be sure to take lots of pictures and drink lots too! Enjoy!
Great Big Sea - Lukey Album - Fire on the Kitchen
(I find that the song kicks even MORE ass if you sing along with it!)
Well oh, Lukey's boat is painted green, Ha, me boys! Lukey's boat is painted green, The prettiest boat that you've ever seen, A-ha, me boys a-riddle-i-day! A-ha, me boys a-riddle-i-day!
Well oh, Lukey's boat's got a fine fore cuddy, Ha, me boys! Lukey's boat's got a fine fore cuddy, And every seam is chinked with putty, A-ha, me boys a-riddle-i-day! A-ha, me boys a-riddle-i-day!

I went to a book signing yesterday for an old friend that I went to school with; Mac McClelland. It's her first book and it's called For Us Surrender Is Out of the Question: A Story from Burma's Never-Ending War. I can't wait to start reading it. That my shameless plug for the day.
But the meat of the story is what happened to me at the bar. My amaretto sour got carded. I learned from the bartender that sours are the drink of choice for underage hoodlums. Well the conversation continued and she still made fun of me for this and called herself a sour patch kid. I misunderstood her and thought that is what she called these kids. So long story short I coined a new bartending term for underage age kids that go to bars and order amaretto sours: Sour Patch Kids!
Amaretto Sour Recipe 1 1/2 oz amaretto liqueur 1 - 2 splashes sweet and sour mix
Pour the amaretto liqueur into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Add a splash or two of sweet and sour mix, and shake well. Strain or pour into an old-fashioned glass, garnish with a maraschino cherry and a slice of orange, and serve.
This music is to make up for Monday's post. Beirut brings an old world style to their music. The results are most enjoyable! So enjoyable I had to post two songs.
Beirut- Cherbourg Album - The Flying Club Cup
Beirut - My Night With a Prostitute From Marseille Album - March of the Zapotec / Holland
My new life starts today. I asked her for a second chance and that was exactly what I got; a second chance at MY life. What a chance it will be too. In the short time away from her, I have already done and seen so much. Much more then we ever did together. Looking back is a fun thing to do. All the times she stood in my way. All the times I let love gloss over all her ..........well everything.
I heard this song sometime ago, but it seems to take on a new meaning each time I listen to it. Right now it makes me smile a really BIG smile. This song goes out to you.... Enjoy!
New Years Day - You'll Only Make It Worse Album - My Dear
The Anni DiFranco concert that I saw Feb. 23rd was great. The Kent Stage only holds around 600 people, so it was a nice setting for her music. And it was totally sold out too!
Lola's The weekend that followed was great too. I went the Cleveland Art Museum and a restaurant called Lola. Cleveland should be so proud to have a place this good. I have never in all my life tasted food so heavenly.
2010 Autoshow And then this Monday I went to the auto show with my Dad. We had a great time dreaming.
You Gotta See This Video Wednesday
District 9 One of the films nominated for best picture this year started out as a short film. I thought it would be cool to share it with you.
I found this group last week and had to share them with you. It has a nice beat to it. I'll be back later on today to tell you about the concert I saw last week, my trip to Lola's, and the Cleveland Auto Show. Enjoy!
